Giclee Canvas Prints Giclee Canvas PrintsCanvas prints are a great way to display your photos or artwork reproductions. They can be purchased as just a canvas or we can also 'stretch mount' them on a timber stretcher bar. All our prints are finished with a special liquid laminate to ensure their durability. Unlaquered prints are easily damaged, colours appear muted, and they are not water resistant. Benefits of the liquid laminate are:
The Fine Art Trade Guild (FATG) is an international organization with members in over 36 countries worldwide, and in order to protect the interests of consumers. FATG has established a specific set of standards so that consumers can be confident that the art and framing supplies they use are archival. These standards are governed under Blue Wool Testing. Key Requirements of the Blue Wool Test
* Lightfastness of finished print - results of 6 or more on the Blue Wool Scale in all areas of the print - or its equivalent under empirical test conditions. * Guild standard PH for substrate of 7-9, amended September 2002 to PH 7-10. * Minimum weight of substrate 250 gsm. Blue Wool Testing Standards
* Standards for blue wool testing are defined by: ASTM D5383-97
Standard practice for Visual Determination of the Lightfastness of Art Materials by Art Technologists Results Blue Wool 6 + 100 years display life. Blue Wool Scale
Measures and calibrates the permanence of prints. Two identical test prints are created. A calibrated blue wool test strip is masked (1/2). The strip and one test print are placed under xenon lamps in accordance with the test standards. The other print is stored in the dark as a control. At various times, the test print is compared to the control print. When visible fading is evident the wool test strip is examined. The amount of fading is then measured by comparison to the original color and a rating between 0 and 8 is awarded. Zero denotes extremely poor colour fastness while and eight rating is deemed not to have altered from the original and thus credited as being lightfast and permanent. Blue Wool 6 is the accepted standard for limited edition prints.
With so many canvas products on the market it can be hard to know what you are buying. Our archival canvas has been independently tested for its archival quality and we can supply you with an archival certificate to show the independant Blue Wool Testing that has been carried out and approved by the Fine Art Trade Guild. Giclee – (Gee-clay) what does it mean? Giclee is French for "little squirt". It defines a new printing method using micro spray head technology giving you a truly amazing quality of print finish. We use piazzo print head printers, so we are ‘Giclee’ printing on all our media. Care Instructions Canvas images should be treated like photos. Do not wet or rub the surface of unvarnished canvas. If they should get wet, allow them to dry naturally. Varnished canvas can be damp-wiped gently to remove any fly spots with water and soft clean cloth only. For general cleaning, dust with a soft cloth or feather duster. Never use chemicals or cleaning products. Stretching CanvasWe offer 20mm, 27mm and 40mm stretcher bars. This is the depth off the wall. All our stretcher bars are made from renewable timber sources, not imported rain forest timbers.Because they are made to order they can fit any odd sizes you require. Canvas is wrapped and stapled at the back, then taped and hooked. For Art Reproduction, or Professional Services, please contact us: info@tawaimaging.com |
